Holy Disco Light

I love light! Ahem, what, right?! Light makes photos! My current favorite is what I call holy disco light. It is the light that shines through the stained glass windows.

When you travel around Europe then you can't escape visiting churches and cathedrals - they're just such a great part of the history and culture. To be honest - it's always too dark inside to take decent photos and at times I struggle with places that are extremely touristy (even though I am one of them - them tourists who want to see everything). However, during my recent speed-visit to Burgos I re-discovered the joy of visiting historic holy places swamped with tourists - Burgos Cathedral is amazing! Not only because it's filled with a myriad of little figurines that make you react (inappropriately?!) like this hipster angel celebrating Movember.

But because it has these amazing stained glass windows.

My go-to photo of a stained glass window would usually look something like this.

However, it is a whole lot cooler to look at the opposite direction, because with a little luck and a little sunshine (or a lot of it like we had in Burgos) you get this.

Not just pretty colors, but a temporary decoration on seats.

Creating a different atmosphere, adding an (almost) neon disco light like touch.

So now I will be hunting holy disco light whenever I can. It is amazing, don't you agree?!

On a side note. This week's topic 'bitter' has been put on hold. I have some ideas that I can't execute before next weekend.

Summer? Busiest time of the year for sure. Anyhow, hope you're having a good one and thanks for stopping by (in between all the sunshine and adventures).

Week 29: Borderline

This time I am gonna share some photos from my awesome mini trip to Lisbon, Portugal. However, I am staying true to last week's topic - borderline. So am going to share photos from one city, from one area (central Lisbon according to touristy map), but showing different worlds. To me Lisbon was very borderline, it left me with strong impressions and quite a few questions. Beautiful and exciting as well as shabby, modern as well as old fashioned. In despair, in celebration. And so on. Hope I have managed to put some of this into the photos below. I feel a bit guilty rushing into it (took a lot of photos and haven't had proper time to process them all - mentally as well as physically), but hey, weekly project waits for no one.

I am working on my holiday photos, so it's very likely that some more images from Lisbon will pop up here or on my Facebook page or on Flickr

This week's challenge - bitter.

Week 28: Fashion

Fashion is what we make of it. It's all around us. Clothes, accessories, lifestyle... in fashion. Out of fashion. This time my approach was - I have to walk from point A to point B and I have to bag some fashion for my blog while running daily errands. From international brands to bohemian to dreamy to vintage. It was all there. On the way. And here you go...

I love fashion. Fashion reflects life... culture, values, feelings.

All Over

I am all over interwebs! Come, let's have a virtual hangout!

My newest virtual baby is my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/kaisaphoto
I am still "building" it, but since most people are lazy and once they're one Facebook they might like your page, but won't click through to get to your Flickr account then well, it's handy to have a place there for my photos and all. Plus I get to share it with people who are not my Facebook friends.

Among other things I post favorites from the past there, like this snap shot from a park in Helsinki in 2010.

So as mentioned earlier, I have a Flickr account, too: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kaisam/.
It is basically the place I stock my photos online. A lot of uploading to be done, but some fun things are already there. Like my photos from the music festival I attended some weeks ago.

Cool people.

For more of Spanish festival fashion click here.

Cool music. These New Puritans.

For even more cool music click here. Ah yes, music is my therapy (read more on it here).

So there, cool stuff there on Flickr, I tell you.

Aha, yes, I am also on Twitter: https://twitter.com/kaisama.
Gotta say tweeting is not my strong suit, but sometimes I comment on colorful bunny-eared iPhone cases and such. Plus I retweet fun things and interesting things. Totally.

And of course Instagram, I am somewhat addicted to it: http://instagram.com/kaisamaisa/.
I have a posted a bunch of Instagram photos also on this blog. Moreover, I wrote a whole post about it! Here's one of my recent favorites.

In addition to Instagram I used my two current favorite apps to edit this photo: VSCO Cam and A Beautiful Mess

This week I have a friend visiting and on Sunday we're off to Lisbon, Portugal for some days (yes, mini-vacation!). I am surely gonna share some photos on the go on Instragram.

Are you on social media? Let me know, so I can like, share and keep in touch.

xx

Ps. You can follow my blog on Bloglovin (see link on the right)!

Week 27: Yellow

Last weekend I was racing bulls in Pamplona, Spain, so a lot of red and not so much yellow. Okay, okay, I did not run with the bulls, I didn't even see them. However, I was at San Fermín Festival. I will let my photos do the talking 'cos I was left speechless more than once. You can find the photos on my Facebook page. Yes, I have a Facebook page now, have a look here and press 'like' if you like. :)

On a side note - the whole running with bulls, a minor deal. Well, it lasts like 3 minutes and one has to be there 6AM to catch a sight of a bull at 8AM. So, I didn't see it, but I was near the people who did not sleep that night and claimed a spot with a view. However, the festival is surely more about sangria showers and such.

Ah, but to the yellow. I caught some little yellow moments on a beach in Biarritz, France. Yes, Pamplona is a short ride away from this gorgeous small town. I am such a granny, I prefer nice seaside towns and late brunch over getting soaked in alcohol. Yellow!

Paradise for surfers and me (who doesn't like surfers, right?!).

Hope you're having a sunny and adventurous summer. Any exciting plans?

xoxo

Ps. This week's topic is - fashion!

And It Was Called Yellow

Yes, I used a line from Coldplay's "Yellow", because my label says 'yellow' and well, I love Coldplay. Win-win. And don't you just love A Beautiful Mess App?! Makes everything so cute.

Couple of days ago I read this great blog post on taking cell phone photos at concerts. Couldn't agree more, especially using the flash part. I get it, we all want photos of our idols. Just like this.

Autre Ne Veut at Dia de la Musica 2013 (Canon 6D + 40mm lens)
Don't get me wrong, I am no better than the smart phone photographers - I always snap a photo or two and later on upload one on Instagram. Even if it's all a blur or you can't even see the band.

Of Monster and Men

The Black Keys
However, I would appreciate if people in front of me wouldn't keep their phones up all time plus you know, some people have iPads, luckily not a common sight at concerts... yet. To be honest I'd rather take some shots with a DSLR, but usually it's forbidden to take a "professional" camera with you at a bigger concert. I'd say it only encourages people to settle for low quality shaky mobile shots. Okay, but won't get into the debate of weather one needs to take photos at concerts to begin with.

Happy mid-week, weekend is getting closer, yea!

Week 26: Together in the Kitchen

Last week I was busy building my own superman army in the kitchen. I mean, you only want the best company in the kitchen and I totally fell for those Superman glasses you get for one Euro with your lunch at Rodilla (Spanish sandwich place). I have five by now, one more and it's a nice set of six. Perfect for summer drinks like tinto de verano. Also, holds well other important things - like cardboard box leftover of the black&white film I popped into my old film camera. Not old like yeah, grandpa used it in WWII and all. But old like 10 years old.

So, here's the photo of being together in the kitchen - my (super)men and my passion.

Other than that I haven't spent that much time in the kitchen (did make my favorite risotto tho - Jamie Oliver is an inspiration and kitchen god, yes). I have been breathing in the summer (read: spent sunny hours hiding indoors under the air conditioner like a true vampire, yikes; but spending more nights out, obviously). Also, have been working a bit on my blog and future Facebook page. As you might have noticed then raindeertrails.blogspot.com redirects you to kaisaphoto.com. Yes, I got my own domain name. Possibly one day I will build a website. But right now it seemed like too much (hosting plans and all). Better spend some time outdoors. Can go all super-nerd in winter.

So, some changes still might appear on this blog (for example I have updated 'About' section). Plus I am excited about getting a Facebook page (though it all takes work - a page needs content). To make long story short. But I did take cover photos on Sunday morning in the park (Instagram proof).

I can't believe it's July already! It's gonna be a busy month with trips to Pamplona (Spain) and Lisbon (Portugal) and at least four concerts - Ben Howard, Tame Impala, Fanfarlo and Devendra Banhart. Oh and you know, full time work and being all summery and chill and stuff like that. Even living in a sunny country doesn't mean that summers are long enough. They're not.

Hope you're having a good summer.
